GEORGETOWN — Delaware Tech’s Outdoor Adventure Club hosted a fall-themed paint night at the Owen’s campus on Nov. 13. Attendees were charged $20 to participate, which included a canvas, paint and paint brushes, and the lesson.
Outdoor Adventure Club co-advisor and Delaware Tech english instructor Nicole Truitt, instructed the step-by-step lesson for the event. Truitt said the Outdoor Adventure Club does a paint night every semester as one of their fundraisers, and that she personally has been painting for years.
“The only thing we really have to do is buy the paint and the canvases. The rest of the money goes to support the club events.”
Truitt said the participants have a lot of fun with the event, and are usually happy with their end results.
“Everybody did really well. Everybody is always skeptical going into it, but I think by the end of the night they’ve usually had a good time and a painting that they’re pretty happy with.”
The total lesson took participants two hours to complete. Information technology student Andrew (last name not given), was a participant of the event. Andrew said that he has been drawing since he was nine, and that he attended paint night last year. Andrew states that he’s taken art classes before and has done work on canvas. “I’ve not really painted much, but it kinda just flows together. Like with drawing skills you kinda get some painting skills. It’s really fun.”
Club co-advisor and social sciences instructor Karianne Sparks, said Nicole Truitt is such a good instructor that she decided to participate; even though she never paints. “I have done a few paint nights before but I still struggle” she says.
Sparks says that she was happy with her painting and that she had a lot of fun anyway.
The Outdoor Adventure Club had 14 volunteers for the event, and will do another paint night next semester. The club participates in yearly activities, including skiing, hiking, camping, water sports, and other ventures. Participating in paint night helps fund the Outdoor Adventure Club for Delaware Tech Students at the Georgetown campus. Don’t miss the next opportunity.
