Delaware Technical Community College held a Connected Degree and Transfer Fair on Feb. 6 at the Owens Campus in Georgetown. Universities across the region and military organizations lined the hallways outside of the bookstore in the Jason Technology Building.
Emmitt Smith, an academic and career counselor at Delaware Tech, said that he’s grateful for the colleges that did take the time to travel to Georgetown. Smith said a snowstorm a few days prior prevented a few colleges from northern Delaware from making their way down to the Owens Campus.
“Right now we have ten programs represented, but we usually have between 15 and 17 I’d say,” said Smith, “But because there was icy conditions in (Pennsylvania) and Northern Delaware we had some cancellations today, but we’re still making the most of it.”
University of Maryland Eastern Shore transfer coordinator Ebone Dorman, who is an alumna of UMES and is looking for transfer students who can uphold the close-knit culture that the campus holds dear.
“(We’re looking for) someone who's eager, someone who’s willing, students who are committed to furthering their education and soaring above and beyond,” said Dorman.
Michael Cylc, a university recruiter for Wilmington University, has been working there for 25 years and is looking for students who can continue revitalizing the campus following the Covid-19 pandemic.
“My favorite quality about Wilmington University is our focus on our students, that is first and foremost part of our culture at Wilmington University,” said Cylc. “We always want to do what’s in the best interest of our students.”
Smith encourages students to go to the Delaware Tech website and visit the transfer webpage to see all of the college’s connected degree partners and to search by major to see what credits will transfer.
