Video Games have reached Delaware Technical Community College campus and students can play them in the Gamers Club for the 2023 spring semester.
The Gamers Club is open to students throughout the four campuses, though in-person meetings are held at the Terry Campus in Dover.
The president of the Gamers Club is Alex Porcoro, a first-year student at Delaware Tech.
"The best part of Gamers Club is getting people together with like-minded interests in video games, and learning about people while playing video games, taking time off the many problems in the outside world,” said Porcoro.
As president, Porcoro is responsible for managing the club and communicating with the staff about the meetings and their performance. He attends all the club meetings and provides the video game console and games for all the club members to play.
"As of now, I bring my Nintendo Switch to all meetings and we usually play Super Smash Bros Ultimate," said Porcoro.
The first meeting of the Gamers Club was held on Feb. 7. Charles Miller, a second-year student at Delaware Tech, has attended every meeting and recommends the club to any interested student because it offers games and friendship.
“The highlights for me are getting to meet more students, and sharing our experiences,” said Miller.
The Gamers Club was set up by Erin Schutt, an advisor at Delaware Tech. She provides information for students who have questions about the meetings and co-advises the club with Kendall Wilson, another advisor at Delaware Tech.
The Gamers Club only has a total of 6 members but Porcoro expects the membership to increase throughout the spring semester. Schutt said the club will continue to meet as long as there is interest in the club.
“We need more members so we can expand the club,” said Miller.
The Gamers Club meets every Friday at the Education and Technology building in room 701 from noon to 2pm.
