The PAC gets comical

By Bryce Evans

The “trivial” comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” was performed by the Performing Arts Club (PAC) Nov. 15-16 to a crowd of 50-60 spectators per performance.

Auditions for the play were held Sept. 16-17 and rehearsal started after. PAC put together everything correlated with the play including lighting, acting, set design, music and advertising.

Chala Breen, PAC advisor and director, was happy with the turnout and the PAC’s performance.

“There are successes and learning opportunities,” Breen said. “I feel that if we have a show at the end of the day and people enjoyed it, then it was a success.”

“The Importance of Being Earnest” was originally written by Oscar Wilde in 1895 and is about two male friends, John “Jack” Worthing (Tyler Meding) and Algernon Moncrieff (Javontay Sturgis) who lie to their significant others, Gwendolen Fairfax (Robbie Muller) and Cecily Cardew (Adara Ryan) about their name being Earnest. They further find out that Fairfax and Cardew wouldn’t love them if their name wasn’t Earnest. After a twist of events Fairfax and Cardew meet each other and both believe they are getting married to “Ernest” which stirs up conflict giving away Worthing and Moncrieff’s true Identities.

Spectator Brianna Groff said, “It was so funny, I’m glad I came.”

There was an intermission with four musical performances from the Delnotes. The first song was “When a Man Loves a Woman” covered by Taylor Phillips, Cory Dunt, Stephen Miller and Juan Leonard.

The second song was “Where the Lines Overlap” covered by Jessie Kimbro, Justin Gabbard, Juan Leonard and Stephen Miller.

Thirdly was “Everything has Changed” was covered by Caitlyn Timko, Taylor Phillips, John Tennefoss, Justin Gabbard, Stephen Miller, Juan Leonard and Robert Ruffino.

And last but not least, “At Last” was covered by Katrina Huebnur, Juan Leonard, Stephen Miller and Cory Dunt.

Joe Ventura said, "The actors were completely in character and I enjoyed the intermission music, it was on point."

Breen said the next PAC performance will be in May.
