Delaware Tech offers many different Study Abroad programs. From nursing, energy, or just general cultural immersion courses, students were able to travel to places like Peru, Japan, Australia, Holland, Switzerland, and Scotland.

The Scotland program is a cultural immersion course, with learning materials including the rich history of Scottish life and the current traditions as well. The students will travel the cities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh and discover more about Scotland, including the castles and highlands. The students will also be interacting with students from the Robert Gordon University, located in Aberdeen.

All the history could be enough to scare someone away from the travels, but this is Business Management student Randy Miller’s third time in a Study Abroad program. Miller has traveled to England and Ireland with Delaware Tech. Miller said he is excited to mark another country of the UK off his list.

“I’ve hit London, Ireland, and now Scotland,” Miller said. “Hopefully Wales will be on next year’s agenda.”

The course consists of 20 students and two instructors, Tina Ballas Downs and Jennifer Morley. Both instructors have partaken in training for international study and travel.

Downs has experience in cultural immersion from participating in her own Study Abroad adventure, when she was a student in the Del Tech Ireland program last year. Downs believes the highlights for the students will be the scenery and culture.

“The highlands will be absolutely beautiful,” Downs said.

Morley added her excitement for the students in the immersion and bonding as a group.

“I’m most excited for the students to form a camaraderie that I think people feel when they go on an experience like this together,” Morley said. “Seeing a different culture changes the way you see the world and when you’re doing that with friends and other students I think it just makes it an even more enriching experience.”
