Delaware Tech Baseball begins new era; hires new coaches

After going 24-19 last season, Delaware Tech Baseball begins the start of a new era in the spring as head coach Stu Madden and assistant coach Mike DiCarlo officially take the field to lead the team.

Coach Madden, 32, said he is looking forward to gaining coaching experience.

“The ability to get college coaching experience without having to uproot my wife and kids was a great opportunity,” said Madden.

“When I heard the job was opening, I applied with the thinking that I had no chance of getting it because I didn't have that much experience as a head coach,” said Madden. “Surprisingly, I got an interview, and with even more surprise, about three weeks later, I got offered the job.”

Coach Madden was formerly a Wesley baseball star, setting numerous records in his collegiate career. Madden set school records for hits (65) and runs (52) in a single season in 2008. He also placed top five in the nation in stolen bases (35) in 2008 and 2009.

Coach Madden will be joined by assistant coach Mike DiCarlo, 32. DiCarlo said that he is thrilled for the season to start.

“I look forward to coaching a group of young men who want to compete, and be successful,” said DiCarlo. DiCarlo wants his students to not only be successful on the diamond, but achieve even more in the classroom, and beyond their career at Delaware Tech.

Coach DiCarlo has coached at Seaford High School since 2009 and also played catcher at University of Maryland Eastern Shore from 2005-2006.
