Owens Campus hosts Patriot Day

Delaware Technical Community College at the Owens Campus celebrated Patriot Day on Sept. 11 to honor those who serve as firefighters, soldiers, and law enforcement.

The event offered attendees an opportunity to decorate cards for law officials as a “thanks” in gratitude for their service. Another part of the event had information about “Mission 22.”

Mission 22 is an non-profit organization to help raise awareness about soldier/veteran suicide. The program is a non-profit organization focused on soldiers suffering with PTSD, and depression. The organization received its name after nationwide statistics of 22 soldiers taking their lives daily. This organization also serves a purpose to reduce, or even eradicate this ratio.

Angela Showell, an academic advisor who works in Veterans Affairs at Delaware Technical Community College, helps veteran students on campus adn attended the event.

“First and foremost I assist our students who are veteran and military students in registering for classes, and choosing their program of study and ensuring that they are able to get veteran educational benefits that they are eligible for.”

Delaware Tech provides many opportunities for veterans, you can find more information about veterans affairs by visiting the Veterans Service in the student services building.
