Milton Theatre hosts NPR’s Domenico Montanaro
NPR’s political editor, Domenico Montanaro spoke on Sept. 15 at Milton Theatre, the first in the guest speaker series, to a local audience.
Milton Theatre director, Fred Munzert stated that he booked the speaker because people have many questions due to our current political climate.
“People are more engaged than in recent years, so I think there will be great discussions tonight,” said Munzert.
When the issue of reliable news came up during the evening, Montanaro stated that NPR, The Washington Post and the New York Times as unbiased news sources.
Montanaro said he was conscious of biases when it comes to reporting the news.
“You have to go back to your roots. You have to have the fairest, strongest arguments on both sides,” said Montanaro.
The evening was moderated by Delmarva Public Radio’s Don Rush. As part of the greater National Public Radio community, DPR reps said they were excited to put a face to a name as Montanaro is heard by listeners on a national scale.
“It’s wonderful to highlight Don Rush as our local news director and news reporter that the Delmarva community is super familiar with,” stated Anne Young, DPR development director.
Montanaro was inspired to go into newscasting while writing for “The Review”, University of Delaware’s college newspaper. Montanaro stated that “The Review” formed everything he does.
“You have to be very intellectually curious. I like to know how things work. Go talk to the public and find out their opinions and what is real,” Montanaro said.
Montanaro can be heard as a frequent contributor to WSCL-FM where Rush hosts “Morning Edition”, weekdays from 6-9 a.m.
