President attends Owens Campus picnic
Delaware Technical Community College at the Owens Campus welcomed back students with its annual student picnic in the Student Services building on Sept. 6.
The event included both outdoor and indoor seating for all students and staff who attended. Delaware Tech’s President Dr. Mark Brainard was one of the guests at the picnic .
Students got to sit down and enjoy a free complimentary picnic. Dempsey Fritchey (first year communications student) was one of the attendees.
“I think the event is just about trying to get people excited, get people together and back on campus, get you ready for the semester and get you back in the swing of it.” he said.
The overall goal of the picnic was to welcome back students as well as get them acquainted with Delaware Tech’s President and staff said Gail Cherrier.
Charrier, Delaware Tech’s Learning Communities coordinator, helped with coordinating the event.
Charrier said, “I am so pleased and encouraged that so many students have come out for our welcome picnic our college President is here and students will have an opportunity to meet and speak with him.”
Dr. Brainard spoke with several students at the picnic. Making an appearance at our campus was a great way for students to get to meet their college’s President.
“The great thing about today at the Owens Campus is that we start off with the student welcome picnic where we ask all the students to come out and join us for lunch.” he said. “It’s an opportunity for students to meet each other, meet classmates spend time talking to faculty and administrators, so it’s a good way to get the year started welcoming them to the campus and the college.”
