Revival House Offers Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail
At the Milton Theater the 31st Revival House was held on Thursday, April 19 featuring “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” to a sizable crowd of movie goers, offering food, drinks, and a selection of artwork by Kristin Aquariann and Teresa Rodriguez of Ogre’s Grove.
The “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” screening not only offered a viewing experience, but an interactive one as well. With coconuts and a packet featuring lines from the film provided to audience members, it allowed for participation numerous times during the show.
Rob Rector, one of three individuals responsible for organizing the Revival House, likes to think that most of their events feature some element of interactivity, citing a previous event featuring the film “Flash Gordon” as an example, where audience members would sing the theme song.
“We encourage audience participation, it’s just this one lends itself to more audience participation than a normal film,” Rector said.
The most prominent example of audience participation was the use of the coconuts, as the characters in the film had no horses, and instead used coconuts to imitate the sound of a horse’s walk. So the audience members did the same when the “horse riding” occured.
Along with Revival House offering “The Room,” which was featured the previous month, Rector hopes to make “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” an annual showing at the event.
Rob Waters, the second member of the trio that runs the Revival House, along with Erin Tanner, seems to think that could be the case.
“I think it seems pretty successful, Water Said. “We had a lot of sales and it seems we have a good crowd, which is not always the case but this one seems to strike a chord with people.”
While the movie attracted a host of fans who’ve already viewed the motion picture, there were still a few attendees who had never seen the film, like Emmanuel Serna, a Revival House regular.
“The show was pretty awesome. The film was bizarre but the experience, even if it’s your first time, it was really great to see,” said Serna.
