Communications program holds Fourth Annual Multimedia Showcase Live

Students from Delaware Technical Community College’s Communications program gathered together at the Milton Theatre on April 25 for the fourth annual Multimedia Showcase with displays from a variety of projects they created throughout the year.

The showcase exhibited by communications students in all content areas of the program, such as videography, photography, layout and design, creative writing, and digital newswriting.

Moreover, this year's event hosted live of the entire show on YouTube channel by communications students Olivia Tennefoss, Willie Brown, and Brayden Ostan. The live stream contained live interviews with attendees, on-stage performances by students, and the entire video portion of the event.

Communications Department Chair Rob Rector was the first who gave the birth to the live streaming idea during the Showcase.

“The most exciting aspect was watching the livestream on YouTube as the event was taking place,” Rector said. “They all worked so hard on all the various aspects to produce the show, it was great to watch it take place in front of a crowd of onlookers.”

Along with the students' printed photos, which were displayed on stands, there was a special edition of the printed version of "The Wire," which featured some of the best stories submitted throughout the year.

Video Production instructor Jessica Farley has been working with students over the past year to help them create video productions for the screening at the theater during the showcase.

“I am always so excited when the videos play because I did have a part of it almost in all of them,” Farley said. “When you go through the process of the production with the team, you get a lot of energy from it, and I love when audiences get to see that.”

Rector admitted that producing a live show and hosting the event at the same time was a challenge for all of the staff and students.

“The staff really put a ton of work into all aspects so that the students could have an event in which they all feel proud,” Rector said.

Communications student Willie Brown presented one of his short films called “The Gold,” which is the inspirational video that he made with one of his friend’s little brother for the Video Production class.

“I hope people enjoy it,” Brown said. “I was surprised when I heard it was getting in, so I’m really glad I could make it into the show.”

Farley said that the showcase was typically reserved for a photography exhibit, but has since grown in the Milton Theatre.

“One of the great things about this night is watching the students,” Farley said. “For a lot of them this is probably most exciting things they have done maybe ever in their school career. To see how much pride they are taking in this.”
