Waffle Wednesday helps Nursing Program Attend National Conference
The Nursing Program at Delaware Technical Community College held a fundraiser at the Owens Campus to help send nursing students to the NSNA National Conference.
Many of the nursing students deemed the Feb. 14 event “Waffle Wednesday,” which is among one of the many events designed to raise funds for various nursing program plans.
“Typically, we host about three events a semester,” said Cheryl Horst, a Student Nursing Association advisor. “Overall we can raise anywhere from $200 to $400.”
The money raised allows the nursing program to attend conferences held by the National Student Nurses Association. Attending such conferences gives students the chance to network with other students and nursing leaders from across the U.S. as well as participate in seminars and workshops to enhance their clinical and academic skills.
“There are so many opportunities for students to attend informational sessions (during the conference) which help to prepare them for entry into the professional world of nursing,” Horst said.
Delaware Tech’s Nursing students are excited at the opportunity to raise money for their program as well.
Chloe Bartholomew, a new student within the program, said she is “happy to participate in an event that could give her a leg up in the program.”
This year’s national conference will be held in Nashville, Tennessee on April 4, meaning four or five Delaware Tech students will be able to attend if fundraising was as successful as last year.
With the funds raised on Feb. 14, along with the rest of the money raised throughout the year Horst is looking to send at least four nursing students to the national conference.
“We were able to raise just over $200,” said Horst on the ‘Waffle Wednesday’ event. Though it’s not the most money they’ve ever raised, the program has “a nice amount of money in the fundraiser account.”
