Owens Campus holds part one of Club Expo
The Welcome Days Club Expo for the Owens Campus of Delaware Technical Community College kicked off on Jan. 24 just outside the hallway leading to the campus bookstore.
The Expo was part of a two-day experience during Welcome Day events on campus. The second event took place the following day in the Fireside Lounge.
The Music Notes Club performed during the Expo and there was also a table set up for students to create their own bags of candy free of charge.
Jennifer Blackwell, an academic counselor working with student life, was essential in organizing the event that was held on all three Delaware Tech campuses simultaneously.
“One of my responsibilities as a counselor is I oversee all clubs and student organizations,” she said. “This event is a part of Welcome Days, so it’s a college-wide event, at every campus today clubs are showcasing.” Blackwell said the Expo is used as an opportunity to help students get involved on the campus by not only showing off the clubs that are available to students, but serving to inspire students to create their own clubs. “At Owens we’re very blessed that we have faculty and staff that help encourage and support our students. Whatever idea you have, if you find it faculty sponsorship, then we’re able to bring that to reality,” said Blackwell. Miles Weber, the president of the student government association, was also present for the event. “I hope that I can be a part of all the clubs and at least show my face here to support them,” said Weber.
