Occupational Therapy Assistant Club hosts quarter auction

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Club, hosted its first Quarter Auction to obtain money for studying guides, Study Abroad Trips, and other various things.

The Quarter Auction took place in the Gym of Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus on Nov. 16.

The auction is a fundraiser event to raise money for the OTA Club and to help pay for the Occupational Therapy Assistant exam prep.

Attendees purchased a paddle with a number and received a list of items that were to be auctioned. All of the students had collected the items and organized them by money value. Depending on the value, items were bid on by 1-4 quarters.

If attendees wanted an item, they had to put in their quarters for that specific items and raise their paddle. A number was then called and whoever had that number on their paddle won the bidding on that item.

Occupational Therapy Assistant student Taylor Rosser was helping out around the Gymnasium with this event. “This is the first one, but we are hoping that it carries over for future students in the OTA program, because it’s a really good fundraiser,” said Rosser

Elaine Smith, the Delaware Tech Dover Campus coordinator and instructor for the OTA Program was present at the front table, helping attendees sign in.

Smith kept expressing her pride in the OTA students and the work they’ve done.

“If you can see all of the items and baked goods, the generosity of the community has just been overwhelming,” said Smith

“These students have made this happen because they’ve gone into the community, they’ve promoted what occupational therapy is,” said Smith

Smith said the event raises money for the prep test that helps Occupational Therapy Students study. To be an Occupational Therapy Assistant students have to pass the National Board test.

“This is a study tool that’s very expensive, but very helpful,” said Smith. “For these students to have come to together and put together an event like this, I find it amazing and they blow me away.”
