Owens Campus holds its semi annual Open House

Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus hosted an Open House on Nov. 16 for students interested in attending a Delaware Tech campus.

A campus-wide event, Open Houses were held at each Delaware Tech campus.

Attendees were greeted by Delaware Tech faculty and handed a bag with information about the Open House, and invited to visit each program’s table to learn more and ask questions.

Leslie Mergner, Assistant Dean of Instruction at Owens Campus, said the event is beneficial to both the students and the programs.

“It’s a chance for them to be able to share with students what we have to offer here,” Mergner said.

High school students should view Open House as a way to explore options for study.

Terry Plank, a Human Services student, discussed what students should come with, when going to the Open House.

“Come with questions,” Plank said. “Come with an open mind, and come with the ability to gain knowledge.”

She said when students come with questions ready, it helps students leave with information about starting their education at Delaware Tech.

Along with Delaware Tech’s programs, an athletics program and scholarships to make education affordable are available.

Sean Saxton, a Human Services student, was at the event to promote Delaware Tech’s athletics program. He also attends Delaware Tech tuition free because of the SEED Program.

“The biggest seller on Delaware Tech is the SEED Program,” he said.

Saxton wants to mature as a student athlete and he said that Delaware Tech is helping him achieve that goal.

Through the evening students went through every program’s table, and were offered a course sequence sheet from the program. Before heading out, students had the choice of enrolling in classes at that time.
