Delaware Tech’s Baseball team sells chicken to catch funds
The Roadrunners, Delaware Technical Community College’s baseball team, hosted a BBQ Chicken Fundraiser on Oct. 27 on the baseball field at Owens Cam
Admittance was $8 and included a BBQ chicken meal, yard games, and music.
Dylan Allen, a criminal justice student and Roadrunner, was selling tickets at the entrance of the event.
“This is the 7th year our team has done this fundraiser, and we just had a different fundraiser a few days ago raffling off a 68’ classic Camaro for $20 a ticket,” Allen said.
As well as raffling off a Camaro, they raffled a $5,000 cash prize and four $2,500 cash prizes.
The money for these fundraisers directly benefits the baseball team, said Coach Allen Schirmer. The majority of the funds raised for the team will go towards the team’s annual trip to Myrtle Beach for a division 1-3 tournament.
“We play nine games in seven days. It’s good competition and good practice playing teams not in our region. We go against teams from South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, all the way to Wisconsin,” said coach Schirmer.
Money not used for the tournament will go to new L-Screens for Delaware Tech’s new batting cages. The remaining funds will be donated to the Horsey Foundation, according to Schirmer.
Joshua Fidderman, a Communications student, was in attendance at the fundraiser playing corn hole against other attendees. He said he heard about the event from fellow classmates and went to support his team as well as get a inexpensive meal.
“The food was really good and pretty cheap, which is always nice. I stopped just to grab something to eat, but I had some time to kill and it looked like everyone was having fun, so I decided to hang out for a bit,” said Fidderman.
The baseball team continues to raise money throughout the year. For more information on upcoming Delaware Tech events, visit the activities calendar.
