Delaware Tech helps students continue their education

Delaware Technical Community College hosted its Connected Degree and Transfer Day on Oct. 18 in the Owens Campus Student Services Center allowing students to see what nearby schools have to offer.

Representatives from several Delaware schools were at the event, including Delaware State University, University of Delaware, Wilmington University, Goldey-Beacom College, and Wesley College. The schools present provided information at booths around the Fireside Lounge.

Wesley College Associate Director of Admissions Chris Jester said students often have a tunnel vision when it comes to their school path, so he was able to help them explore their options.

“I think it's important for students who are in a community college setting to be able to see what the next steps are,” said Jester.

Several out-of-state schools also had booths at the event, including Rowan University, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Kaplan University, and Southern Illinois University.

Karen Nagyiski, a liaison for Southern Illinois University, said, “Even though we're an out of state institution, we actually offer degrees right here at Dover Air Force Base.”

Nagyiski said that she can advise students about how their Delaware Tech credits will transfer over into the school’s programs.

Along with the variety of schools, there were also representatives for the United States Army, Air Force, and National Guard.

With so many different options presented at the event, there was something for everyone.

Dulce Sanchez, an early childhood education student, who is thinking about pursuing her bachelor’s degree, found the event helpful. Sanchez said she learned a lot about different colleges and the levels of education.

When asked why others should come to this event Sanchez said, “to get an idea about where to go after the two years (at Delaware Tech).”

In addition, pizza was available to attendees while they browsed the booths during Connected Degree and Transfer Day.
