Owens campus community respond to gas prices
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have affected gas prices in Delaware and has subsequently affected the lives of students and staff on Delaware Tech’s Owens campus.
Gas prices had risen from $2.17 per gallon to $2.69 per gallon in one week due to Hurricane Harvey, but have recently dropped to $2.35 per gallon. This brief rise of price has had an impact on some Delawareans, but not on everyone.
“It hasn’t personally affected me,” Terry Plank, Delaware Tech student services aid said. “I think more so it’s affected the individuals who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey down in Texas.”
Prices have continued to drop as time passes, but it is not yet known if prices will return to as low as $2.17 per gallon.
“I think the prices will probably decrease depending on whether or not it’s a permanent increase,” Anthony Rousak, business administration student said.
As the prices continue to fluctuate, some people have been affected by the changes.
“I feel like gas prices normally fluctuate,” Jennifer Ptak, an undeclared student said. “I don’t get gas too often, but it makes me not want to fill up my tank all the way.”
