Remembrance ceremony held at Owens

Delaware Technical Community College held a Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony on Sept. 11, by the flag-pole on Owens Campus. This event brought eager students, staff, and Veterans to come out to plant small flags as a memoir and a sign of respect to the fallen ones.

Around 40 people showed up to the Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony to show their support for not only those who lost their lives on 9/11, but to Veterans who had also lost their lives.

David Tidwell, a Veteran of the U.S. Military, felt that 9/11 was a tough day for the country. He felt strongly about Patriot Day. “

“I’m glad people are still recognizing it and I’m just honored to be here.”

“I feel sad about the 3000 people that were killed that day, but we’re moving on,” Tidwell said.

JD Shuckers,a seafood restaurant located across the street from Delaware Tech at 21710 Roth Ave., Georgetown, held an all-day fundraiser with proceeds benefiting veteran causes.

Attendee Bryce Haggerty, who is in the process of enlisting in the United States Air Force, attended the emotional event.

“I think it was definitely a special event, I am glad people come together to remember these events,” she said.

“I’m glad to be a part of what keeps us stronger as a country.”
