Roadrunners baseball two wins away from playoff berth

The Delaware Technical Community College men’s baseball team has had an up-and-down 2017 season.

However, as May steadfastly approaches, the team is looking to make a run at the NJCAA playoffs.

In the beginning of April, the Roadrunners were playing abysmal baseball, winning just three of their first 10 games of the month.

But thanks in part to better pitching, and on-base percentages(OBP) shooting up over .350, Delaware Tech is currently riding a notable five-game win streak going into the month of May.

“We’ve just started swinging the bats well as of late,” says Dillon Cole, a sophomore pitcher and third basemen. “Coach [Curtis Brock] moved a few guys around in the lineup and we’re all pretty comfortable with where we’re at right now.”

Despite recent impressive efforts the team still sits just one game below .500, at 17-18 on the season. In order to qualify for the NJCAA playoffs Delaware Tech must win the final two regular season games on their schedule; both of which are in New Jersey.

“To get these last two wins, we have got to play up to our potential, as the season has gone on we’ve all really bonded as a team and you can tell it’s making a difference in the outcomes of the games,” said outfielder Kyle Lux.

For players like Brent Adams, in their final year of playing, there is a lot riding on the line with the last two games.

“It would be real nice to get in, the past three years the playoffs have been in Georgetown but we had to rake the field and watch while other teams played,“ said Adams. “It would be something special if we could pull this off.”

The fate of Delaware Tech’s season will be decided May 3 when they square off against Camden County College in Camden New Jersey at 3:30 p.m.
