Treats and Snacks for Christmas
Delaware Technical Community College Science Club at Owens Campus held a bake sale on Nov. 29, by the campus bookstore. Funds raised from the bake sale will be used for the Science Club’s holiday event.
This year, they will be going to the American Legion and picking a card from the Christmas tree. On each card is local family in need, and the club plans to buy Christmas presents for the family they picked.
Secretary of the Science Club Paige Stevenson said, “This event is actually bringing all of us (club members) together. We’ve actually became a lot closer.
“Our name is getting out to a lot of people. A lot of people are like ‘Oh, there is a Science club!.’”
At the bake sale, the Science Club offered brownies, Christmas cookies, cupcakes, homemade chili and funnel cakes, hot dogs, drinks, and even an international dessert, baklava.

The Science Club was restarted this semester by the club’s president, Josie McGolderick.
“We really needed this club. It was a requirement for our classes. So, we got it up and running, and now have about 17 members now,” McGolderick said.
McGolderick said the club is not science-based and tries to provide students at Delaware Tech with a “fun community.” She said the club wants to “create more of a college environment.”
The Science Club also participates in community events, holds fundraisers, and volunteer for school events. Their meetings are held every Thursday in a reserved dining hall, located in the cafeteria.
