Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony
Delaware Technical Community College Owens Campus celebrated Patriot Day on Monday, Sept. 12 with a poster-signing and a moment of silence ceremony at the flagpole near Student Services Center.
President of Campus Activities Michael Hoffa said the poster is for people to show their personal support for those who lost their lives on September 11th. Miniature flags were handed out to those who signed the poster.
Hoffa said “the poster will be left up in the Student Service Center for a couple of months giving those who didn’t have the chance to sign the opportunity to add their name.”
Dr. Denise Berry, advisor of campus activities, said this is the campus’s second time holding this event.
“The flags given out are to be placed in the ground to support the first responders who lost their lives during the 9/11,” Berry said. "9/11 was in fact a sad day for everyone in the United States. Many people lost their lives on this day. It is important to remember this day to thank and recognize everyone who was impacted."
A Pledge of Remembrance speech was given by Rob Bates, academic counselor. He discussed what he personally remembered during the time 9/11. Where he was and what he was doing at the time of the attack. He said he hopes his speech helps show how important this day was in american history.
