Home Sweet Homicide comes to the Owens Campus

Murder anyone? Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, that is. The Performing Arts Club will hold “Home Sweet Homicide,” an interactive and imaginative dinner theatre, April 8 and 9 at Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus.

Co-director Anthony Rousak said the play is a parody of a Sherlock Holmes story, but the audience will not expect what they’re going to get.

“We play pretty loose and fast with the traditional Holmes and Watson story,” he said. “It’s more comedic and light-hearted in a way. But there’s still an element of sinisterness because it is a murder mystery.”

Christopher Heisler, who plays Hemlock Holmes, said the story revolves around a disease many of the characters have that causes them to remove their clothing.

“Holmes has returned from a trip and has brought a girl with him who has this disease,” he said. “Everyone’s wondering how can they cure it and by the end of the story, mysteries unfold and a murder happens. That’s how we get the audience involved, they are the ones who decide who did it.”

Club advisor Gayle Parola said they try to keep everything as mysterious as possible to draw people in and keep everyone guessing.

“At the end while the audience is eating dessert they will be given a ballot and they write down who they believe did or didn’t do it,” she said. “Based on a majority of responses, that decides who did it.”

Parola said she thinks the audience will enjoy the show because it’s something new and fresh that the whole student body can connect with.

“We’re always trying to do something that’s going to build some confidence in the students and build some camaraderie,” she said. “We’re looking forward to showcasing what these students can do.”

Parola said the audience can expect a three-course meal of salad, stuffed shells and dessert prepared by Lighthouse Cove in the Dining Hall.

“Home Sweet Homicide” tickets are being sold at Java 101 for $20. Seats will be limited to 50 per night and the show will be at 7 p.m. on April 8 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on April 9 at the Dining Hall in the Student Services Center. For more information, email owensperformarts@dtcc.edu.
