Everyone gets social at Delaware Tech’s Media Conference
From reaching an audience to taking selfies, Delaware Technical Community College’s fourth annual Social Media Conference was a treasure trove of tips and tricks for promoting a business online.
Guest speakers included local experts in the field of social media advertising. The keynote speaker was Scott Kammerer, president of the Lewis-based company SoDel Concepts. His company was ranked 282 out of 5,000 by Inc. Magazine (2009) for fastest-growing businesses in America.
“Social media is now 80 percent of our marketing,” said Kammerer. He prefers social media to other forms of advertising because he says it is easier to connect with his customers, or audience.
There were a total of 15 speakers at this year’s event, such as: Mariah Calagione of Dogfish Head Brewery, Ken Grant of Epic Marketing and Elizabeth Keller of the Delaware Tourism Office.
Many of the speakers led specialized breakout sessions after the main speech. Some of these sessions included: Advanced Facebook and Instagram Advertising Strategies; Creating Compelling Visual Content and Periscope 101.
“Social media has grown in the industry ... people are really thriving on learning about it,” Delaware Tech Program Developer Jillian Whitney said. Whitney served as the speaker organizer for the event and recorded the turnout, which was 200 compared to last year’s 125 attendees.
“Social media is available 24/7; it never sleeps,” said Betsy Carter, senior community manager at The Archer Group.
Carter, who was part of a discussion panelist of media experts, shared why she felt social media was such a powerful tool. The panelists shared their personal success stories of how they used social media to promote their businesses and answered questions from the audience.
The next Social Media Conference will be held Feb. 16, 2017, at the Delaware Tech Owens Campus.
