Study Abroad Club talks Dominican Republic
The Study Abroad Club at Delaware Technical Community College was all fun and no business on Nov. 25 during its meeting about “Fun Facts” on the Dominican Republic and what students would be doing on the Study Abroad trip to the country.
What the club calls their iconic “Mascot Bucket” contained a bunch of “Fun Facts” that each attendee got to choose from and share with the club. Some of the facts chosen included that the Dominican Republic is a democratic nation and that it is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the North and the Caribbean Sea to the south.
Amy Russell, event coordinator of the club, also went over the itinerary for the trip. Some events planned during the trip on May 30 through June 7, include a visit to a local elementary school, a Spanish music and dance lesson and even a marine exploration.
Russell said students will have a choice of swimming, snorkeling or even scuba diving during the marine exploration.
“I’m just a little wary of going that deep in the water when I have to board a plane the very next day,” said Russell. “I would rather just snorkel and play it safe.”
According to Russell, the objective of the meeting was to outline the Dominican Republic and answer any questions attendees had about the trip. She feels that the objective was clearly met by the end of the meeting and considered the meeting a complete success.
