Brewing up new ideas for Java 101
Ideas are brewing at the Delaware Technical Community College Owens campus coffee shop Java 101. From new management to business expansion, Java 101 has a lot to look forward to.
Entrepreneurship student Talesha Blanchard has taken the position as manager at Java 101. Blanchard is enrolled part-time at Delaware Tech and has worked in Java since the beginning of Summer 2015.
Blanchard has a couple of plans she’d like to see happen while in charge, including new coffee flavors, new menu items, and even opening new locations at the other Delaware Tech campuses throughout the state.
Starting in Spring 2016, Java 101 will be offering a cart service to the additional buildings on campus in addition to their brick and mortar location in the Student Service Center. It will be rolling through the Jason Technology Center for those students who don’t want to walk across campus.
“It won’t be a full service cart or anything, but it will have the food and will be able to make most the drinks we offer in the store,” Blanchard said.
The shop also had a short partnership with Evan’s Farms that will end after they sell the last of the Frozen Farmer ice cream and sorbets in their back freezer.
“It’s nothing personal, we just have had these since the end of Summer and they haven’t been selling as much as we thought so for the sake of sales we aren’t going to reorder,” Blanchard said.
The shop will also be changing it store hours coming next semester to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
