Phi Theta Kappa members and non-members made blankets and pillows for Project Linus on Dec. 1 and Dec. 3 in the Student Services center.

PTK recording secretary Briana Smith said Project Linus is about giving the no-sew pillows and no-sew blankets to first responders to be given to children in emergency situations between newborn and age 18. Some of the no-sew pillows will go to foster children as well.

“If I can give back anything, I do,” Smith said. “It’s all for helping people.”

Vice President of Hallmarks and Parliamentarians David Olmstead said they made more than a hand-full of pillows and blankets.

Olmstead said this is his first year with PTK and he enjoys being in the organization.

Education student Travis Harris said he had no prior experience making blankets.

Project Linus’ mission is to “Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghan, created by volunteer ‘blanketeers.”

Make a Blanket Day will be held Feb. 20, the third Saturday in February. Visit http://www.projectlinus.org/volunteer/ for more information.

Project Linus headquarters is located in Bloomington, Illinois.
