Owens Campus photography students will soon be sharing their hard work with the public during the “Formally Captured” exhibit on Dec. 8 at The Upper Crust in Georgetown.
Photography students will be displaying one photo each and will be present for a “Meet the Artist” event from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. The photos will continue to be displayed at the cafe until January 11. During this time, the public will be able to view, and even purchase, the photographs and all money will go directly to the artist.
The students will also be displaying their work in the Jason Technology Center on Dec. 8. The artists will be attending the event and sharing their portfolios from 3 – 4:30 p.m. Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite photograph as well.
This is the first year the photography class is holding their own exhibit outside of the school.
Photography instructor Keith Mosher said holding an off-campus exhibit is a great opportunity for students to get more exposure and teach them how to display their work to the public.
Communications Department Chair Rob Rector agrees this will be great exposure for students, but also a great motivator.
“This will hopefully motivate students to put even more effort into their work knowing that it will be seen and judged, not just by fellow students, but by the general public,” Rector said.
Students are already feeling that motivation.
Communications student Patricia Starkey said the prospect of having their work shown to the public has the students nervous yet excited about the opportunity.
“Everybody is going to get to see this, so we kind of tightened up on our projects,” Starkey said. “It made us take it really seriously and we are definitely going to do our best.”
