October’s SGA meeting shines light on upcoming events

By Aaron Felton

October’s Student Government Association (SGA) meeting began with students and advisors planning events such as the creative writing and photography collaboration, the Leadership Conference, an energy and engineering event and the Halloween Costume Contest.

The Meeting was held on October 12th in meeting room B of the Student Services building.

They also help host Adopt a Highway, and help plan the Halloween Costume Contest.

SGA strives to make stronger connections between staff, administration and the student body, as well as help plan events and bring attention to concerns the student body may have. SGA meets every month to discuss upcoming events as well as events that have passed.

Denise Berry, academic counselor and advisor for SGA, oversees campus activities and guides students and helps them select a title most suited for their skill set.

“I enjoy the students energy and ideas,” she said.

Marquetta Nelson, the SGA Vice president also helps plan events and helps prepare the meetings. She joined the SGA because she thought she could make a difference and start getting involved in clubs, and help clubs get involved with each other.

Samuel Schlegel, the president of the SGA has attended every meeting since the start of the school year. He has to attend meeting office hours on Tues noon to 2 p.m.

Amanda Greenstein, secretary of the SGA. She usually keeps a record of what is said during the meeting to keep track of planned events. She also talks about upcoming events during the meetings. The hardest event she worked on was helping with student orientation earlier this year.

“It was the first taste of what heading an event was like,” Greenstein said.

She decided to join because she thought it would be a good experience and push her out of her comfort zone and to become a leader.

The next meeting will be held from 12:15-1:15 p.m. on Nov 9 in the Student Lounge outside the Bookstore.
