It was that time of the semester again when the Photography students at Delaware Technical Community College put their money where the lens is for a chance to be named ‘best in show.’

On Dec. 9, in the Science hallway of the Jason Technology Center, students had the chance to view a collection of the work that had been completed by the photography class during this recent fall semester. They were also asked to cast their votes for who they believed to be the best in show.

Communications student Jo Sheldon was present for a majority of the exhibit and did her part in selecting a winner.

“I voted for my choice because it suited my personal liking and was the most eye-catching,” Sheldon said. “I really wasn’t looking for anything, I just went around and that one caught my eye the most.

“I think everybody did really good, there was a variety,” Sheldon continued. “Overall I liked all the choices.”

There were two awards that were given out at the conclusion of the event. They were the public choice award, which is determined by the votes of students and visitors, which was given to Michelle Rideau, while the faculty choice award, which is decided by the votes of the faculty members, went to Joshua Wolfe.

“I’m really surprised that I won,” Rideau said. “But I’m really excited that I did.”

Rideau then praised the entire exhibit.

“I’m really thankful for the exhibit; it’s a really great experience and I’ve never had any experience like this before,” Rideau said. “I’m glad that Del Tech has this opportunity for us students.”

Wolfe echoed Rideau’s excitement about winning the faculty choice award.

“I’m really happy; I’ve put in a lot of work into all of my pictures,” Wolfe said. “It’s really cool to get something for it.”

Both Rideau and Wolfe are Communications students and were both pleased with the overall turnout of the exhibit.

Another person pleased with the turnout was the instructor of the Digital Photography class, Keith Mosher. Mosher watched over the exhibit, collected the votes, and presented the awards to the winners at the conclusion.

“Overall the exhibit looks good, I’m happy with what the students did and the effort they put into it,” Mosher said. “They’ve really come a long way in just the 16 weeks during the semester.

“At the beginning of the semester it’s always a little worrisome to see what’s being produced,” Mosher added. “But the students end up coming through in the end.”
