Students of the desktop publishing class will showcase their final projects at the Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus on Dec. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m, in a public open house that will consist of advertising designs to better promote Java 101 and The Wire.
Instructor Heather Madden said she is initiating the inaugural desktop publishing open house to express how gifted and talented her students are to fellow students and faculty.
“An open house is a fantastic way to showcase student work,” Madden said.
Madden said she plans to invite the Business and Communications departments, The Wire staff, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Melissa Rakes, and the management of Java 101.
“I’ve always admired the photography class’s exhibit,” Madden said. “That’s primarily how the open house for desktop publishing was introduced.”
The photography class at Delaware Tech Owens Campus holds an annual photography exhibit to showcase the best student work of the semester.
“An open house is an opportunity to honor the creativity of our students,” Madden said. “It’s much more conducive to students.”
Communications major Michelle Rideau said displaying the actual promotional products the students in her class designed by the students this semester to promote Java 101 and The Wire is incredible because people will be noticing the creativity and hard work.
“I’m excited to show people the designs I’ve worked so hard on,” Rideau. “Hopefully, they’ll like at least one of the 14 designs I’m showcasing.”
The first half of the final project for the students in desktop publishing was to design business cards, coasters, mouse pads, coffee sleeves, and beverage insulators to promote Java 101 and The Wire.
The second half of the final project was to partnering with a fellow classmate and designing 10 additional promotional products of their choosing.
