Delaware Tech Goes Pink

By Kayla Brennick

On Oct. 14, Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus, students and staff came together to take a picture of everyone wearing pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The photo took place after the Better U: Are U Aware? presentation, which featured guest speakers and informative booths about breast cancer.

Anyone was welcome to join – students, faculty, staff, etc. – who wished to be a part of it, as long as they wore pink.

The photo was a success, with approximately 50 to 60 people showing up for it, she said.

Jason Burlew, of the Marketing and Public Relations Department, took the photo.

The goal of the annual photo is to raise awareness of breast cancer, said Assistant Dean of Student Activities Courtney Powell.

“It’s just great to get the campus community involved in as much as possible,” Powell said.

Other breast cancer awareness activities throughout the month of October included a pink t-shirt sale and a bra-decorating contest.

The money raised from both events went to help aid in breast cancer research.
