Music Club and Del Notes: Living in Perfect Harmony

By Brian Eastburn

For the first time in their two year existence, two Delaware Technical Community College, Owens Campus, music based clubs have joined forces to form a musical mixture of epic proportions.

The Music Club and the Del Notes have combined in order to strengthen both organizations. This merger has brought a unity that was once missing in both, according to Del Notes President Katrina Huebner.

“I think this is going to be a good thing because it will give the music club an opportunity to actually hone their skills, to have a reason to play,” Huebner said.

In the past, the Music Club and Del Notes were on their own, with the Del Notes having little to no accompaniment. Without vocals, the Music Club was basically just a jam band, with everyone doing their own thing.

Music Club leader Cory Dunt is excited about the prospect of this new endeavor. Dunt sees talent everywhere, and each individual artist is learning to grow and come together with the others to form a single unit.

“Looking at where the club was last year, they learned one song, and seeing this group ultimately succeeding in learning five, I'm proud of them,” Dunt said.

Dunt feels that each meeting will be greeted with new challenges and breakthroughs, and on certain nights even amazement. Last week was one of those moments, Dunt proudly confesses.

“Last week we came together in the most natural and beautiful way, and while it was far from perfect, it was incredible to see the change,” Dunt said.

The first performance of this newly formed group will be during the intermission of the Performing Arts Club fall production of “The Importance of Being Earnest,” on Nov. 15 and 16 in the theater, located in the Arts and Science building.

Students that have a passion for music and wish to join The Music Club or the Del Notes can show up to the theater between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Mondays or contact either Cory Dunt at cdunt@dtcc.edu or Katrina Huebner at khuebner@dtcc.edu.
